Discover Gyeongsang-gamyeong Park: The Historic Heart of Daegu

2026-04-19

Gyeongsang-gamyeong Park is a peaceful green oasis located in the center of Daegu. This site holds deep historical importance as the former capital of Gyeongsang-do Province during the Joseon Dynasty. It functioned much like a modern provincial government office.

The government complex, known as a Gamyeong, moved several times before settling permanently in Daegu in 1601. For over 300 years, the Governor managed military, judicial, and administrative affairs from this very spot. Today, the park preserves original structures like Seonhwadang Hall, where the Governor worked, and Jingcheonggak, his former residence. Walking through the park feels like stepping back into the 17th century.

How to Get to Gyeongsang-gamyeong Park

Reaching the park is very easy for international travelers due to its central location. You can take the Daegu Metro Line 1 and get off at Jungangno Station. Take Exit 4 and walk straight for about five minutes. You will see the traditional gates of the park on your right.

If you are coming from Daegu Station, the park is within walking distance. It takes only 10 minutes to reach the entrance on foot. Many local buses also stop nearby at the “Gyeongsang-gamyeong Park” station. Since it is in a busy district, we recommend using public transport rather than driving.

The Scenery of Gyeongsang-gamyeong Park

The park offers a beautiful blend of traditional Korean architecture and lush nature. Tall, ancient trees provide plenty of shade for visitors sitting on the benches. The historic Seonhwadang Hall features an elegant curved roof that looks stunning against the city skyline.

During the spring, cherry blossoms decorate the pathways with soft pink petals. In the fall, the ginkgo trees turn a brilliant gold. The stone paths and traditional walls create a calm atmosphere amidst the bustling city. It is a favorite spot for locals to rest and for tourists to take beautiful photos of Korea’s heritage.
