Discover Namdang Port: Fresh Seafood & Stunning Sunsets on Korea’s West Coast

Namdang Port, in Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, is a treasure. It boasts abundant seafood thanks to its location on vast Cheonsu Bay. All year, tourists flock here for fresh catches. Enjoy razor clams, black rockfish, crabs, and shrimp. Many delicious raw fish restaurants dot the area.

Seasonal Delights and Festivals

Spring offers lovely picnics with fresh seafood. Summer invites you to enjoy the cool sea breeze and swimming. Fall is lively with the Razor Clam Festival.

The fish market is famous for its autumn Razor Clam Festival. Here, razor clams are grilled and fried. In winter, don’t miss the Winter Razor Clam and Meat Food Festival.

Winter razor clams are a true delicacy. They are caught from early December. The cold winter winds make them plump and flavorful by mid-winter.

Scenic Beauty and Sunset Views

The calm, silver waters provide stunning sunsets. You can also spot migratory birds like black-tailed gulls. The beautiful coastal scenery is visible everywhere.

The Namdang Sunset Observatory is right next to the port. As its name suggests, it’s the perfect spot for beautiful sunsets. Arrive 30 minutes before sunset. Create memories while enjoying coffee at a nearby cafe.

Built on a long, golden sandy beach, the red observatory stands out. It contrasts beautifully with the sea and the green mountains.

The Sunset Observatory extends towards the sea. It feels like you’re walking towards the sky and the water.

Enjoying the Coast

Even without going to the observatory, the West Sea coast’s unique beauty is yours. Savor delicious seasonal food. Walk along the white sand beach with family or friends. Or simply relax and meditate while looking at the healing sea.

At sunset, the sky turns a brilliant red. This creates a truly wonderful scene.

The gentle waves, unique rock formations, and wide tidal flats will long stay in your memory.

Cheonsu Bay is also a well-known spot for migratory birds. Many people visit to watch and photograph birds other than black-tailed gulls.

Last winter, I visited Namdang Port. I walked along the breakwater, enjoying the cold sea breeze. The port is especially beautiful at sunset.

The seafood at the market was incredibly fresh, cheap, and delicious. A local recommended a restaurant where I enjoyed fresh raw fish, seafood, and shabu-shabu.

To make your trip even better, check the sunset time and festival dates beforehand.

Nearby Seosan-gun and Dangjin-gun offer various attractions. You can create unforgettable memories with friends or family on a weekend trip.
