Geoje Island is a spectacular destination. Many call it the “Second Jeju Island.” It is large and beautiful. An impressive bridge connects it to the mainland. This island blends city life with pure nature. You must put Geoje on your travel list!

1. Introduction to Geoje Island, Gyeongnam

Geoje is the second-largest island in South Korea. Only Jeju is bigger. The Geoga Bridge connects it to Busan. Travel from Busan is very convenient. At first, you see busy shipyards and city centers. But past Jangseungpo Port, the scenery changes. Geoje has rich nature. It offers great coastlines, dense forests, and dramatic rocks.

2. How to Get to Geoje Island, Gyeongnam

Getting to Geoje is easy. The journey offers great views. You can come from the east (Busan) or the west (Tongyeong).

  • From Busan (East): Use the Geoga Bridge
    • By Car/Bus: This is the fastest way. Take the Geoga Bridge. It makes the trip very quick. It feels like a highway drive, not an island trip.
    • Direct Buses: Intercity buses run from Busan terminals. They go straight to Geoje’s main terminals (like Kohyeon or Jangseungpo).
  • From Tongyeong (West): Use the Geoje Bridge
    • By Car: Drive across the Geoje Bridge. The national road is smooth and fast.
    • Local Buses: Buses run often between Tongyeong and Geoje. It is a simple and cheap connection.
  • Travel Tip: Rent a car if possible. Geoje is large. A car lets you reach secluded beaches easily. You can enjoy the stunning coastal roads.

3. The Scenery of Geoje Island, Gyeongnam

Geoje is full of coastal drives and amazing geology. The nature here is truly spectacular.

  • Seventy-Li Road (Chilsimni-gil): This scenic path runs from Jangseungpo Port to Haegeumgang.
    • Listen to the Coast: You hear waves over Mongdol Beach. This beach has unique rounded pebbles. They make a lovely sound when the tide moves them.
    • Camellia Woods: Drive through beautiful camellia forests. You might see colorful birds there.
  • Haegeumgang (Sea Diamond): This is Geoje’s most famous natural wonder. It is at the island’s tip.
    • Steep Cliffs: This small, uninhabited island has dramatic rock cliffs.
    • Sea Caves: Beautiful sea caves are below the cliffs. They are truly captivating.
    • Best Views: Take a cruise ship from the pier. You see the best view of Haegeumgang. The sight is wonderful at dawn or under a full moon.
  • Oedo Botania: This is a top tourist spot on Geoje.
    • Garden Paradise: It is a private garden. It features over 3,000 types of plants and flowers.
    • Mediterranean Style: All the buildings look like Mediterranean architecture. It creates an exotic and beautiful feel.
  • Great Drives: The road between Mujigae Village and Yeocha Village is fantastic. It offers continuous, stunning ocean views. It is one of the best coastal roads on the South Sea. Yeocha’s Mongdol Beach is perfect for summer camping and swimming.
  • Jisimdo Island: This small island is near Jangseungpo Port. It is the most beautiful camellia island in the area. The island is covered in camellia trees. The flowers turn the island red every March.
