Damyang, the home of bamboo

It is famous for the so-called Daetongbap, which is a variety of food beautifully displayed on bamboo.

Metasequoia trees, which are just as beautiful as bamboo, are planted along the road, creating an exotic and fantastical landscape.

From a distance, they look like fairies sitting in a row or like a miniature train from a toy country.

If you look from the middle of the road, you can see the British guards inspecting.

They inspect in an orderly manner and wave their hands to outsiders.

As you walk along this road, you will be captivated by the exotic scenery and before you know it, you will be drawn into the southern region.

As you pass through the green cave, you will realize why this place is called the ‘dream drive course.’

If you stop the car for a moment and walk, you will be captivated by the unique scent coming from the metasequoia trees, making you feel like you have come to a forest bathing area.

The Metasequoia tree-lined road was created in 1972 by Damyang-gun (19th, County Mayor Kim Ki-hoe) by planting 1,300 5-year-old trees along the 5km section of National Road No. 24, from the county office to the Wonyul intersection in Geumseong-myeon.

Despite the difficult financial conditions at the time, the county secured funds to plant and care for the trees, and since then, the trees have been continuously planted and managed on the main roads connecting Damyang-eup and each district, creating Damyang’s beautiful Metasequoia tree-lined road.

The 10-20m tall beautiful trees that line both sides of the national road for a whopping 8.5km stretch their deep green branches, catching the attention of those passing by.

This road is best for driving in the summer when the green foliage is at its peak. It is such an enchanting road that it is regrettable to just quickly pass by in a car.

If you rent a bike and go hiking, it would be a great way to enjoy the true beauty of the Metasequoia Road.
A long time ago, when the highway development plan was announced, this road was in danger of disappearing, but it was recognized as an important place to the public enough to be moved aside due to opposition from many local residents.

It is also famous as a filming location.
