1 Introduction to Baekyangsa.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Baekyangsa is a temple located in Naejangsan National Park, and it is said to have been founded during the reign of King Mu of Baekje (632).
The scenery is very beautiful with clear and cold stream water flowing down on both sides with a huge rock in the background.
It shows beautiful scenery that changes throughout the year, including the autumn foliage.
Daeungjeon, Geungrakbojeon, and Sacheonwangmun are designated as tangible cultural heritages of Jeollanam-do, and Soyo Daesa Stupa is a national treasure.
When you pass through the forest path lined with oak and maple trees and enter the entrance of Baekyangsa, the first thing that catches your eye is Ssanggyeru.
In front is a pond created by blocking the valley, and behind it is a strange rock cliff that stands like a folding screen, and the sight of Ssanggyeru reflecting in the pond water looks like a painting. After passing Ssanggyeru, Daeungjeon, Geungrakbojeon, and the stupa come into view.
When Baekyangsa was founded, it was called Baekamsa, but it was changed to Jeongtosa during the Goryeo Dynasty.
It is said that during the reign of King Seonjo of Joseon, whenever the monk Hwanyangjo read the Buddhist scriptures, a white sheep would listen to the sermon, and so it was called Baekyangsa.
It was famous for its good deeds, and many great monks who led the Buddhist community were born here.
There are as many as five great monks, including Hwaneung, who served as the second head monk during the Japanese colonial period, Manam, the first head monk of the Jogye Order, Mukdam, the first head monk of the Taego Order, and Seoongdang, the head monk of the recent period. Also, if you go up the mountain path, there are many hermitages, and Yaksaam, Unmunam, and Cheonjinam have great views.
Yaksaam, which is 20 minutes away from the temple entrance, is like an observatory, and you can see the entire Baekyangsa Temple surrounded by mountains at a glance.
Across from the spectacular view, there is a grove of 5,000 evergreen Zelkova trees, a subtropical tree, which have been designated as a natural monument. The 0.5km section from the parking lot is a natural path with hundreds of years old giant hornbeam trees, 3,000 zelkova trees, and Zelkova serrata trees, making it a great place for forest bathing.
