Maisantopsa, located about 1.9km from the southern parking lot of Maisan, is famous for the 80 stone pagodas built by a man named Lee Gap-yong.

The era in which he lived was chaotic, and he began to build the pagodas with a prayerful determination to save the people, lamenting the dark world.

These towers are named Cheonjitap, Obangtap, Wolgwangtap, Ilgwangtap, Yaksatap, Jungangtap, Wolgungtap, Yonggungtap, and Sinjangtap, and each tower is said to have its own meaning and role.

The towers are not made of polished stone, but are made of natural stones stacked one on top of the other, and their heights range from 1m to 13.5m.

The shapes of the stone towers are mostly I-shaped and cone-shaped, and their sizes vary, from watermelon-sized boulders to thumb-sized pebbles stacked on top of each other.

They are not glued, cemented, or even fitted together by digging grooves.

The pair of Cheonjitap behind Daeungjeon are the largest, and are about three times the height of an adult.

It is still not clear exactly how these tall towers were built, and people are curious.

Why has it stood firm and unwavering despite typhoons and tornadoes for over 100 years?

This is a rare miracle not only in our country but also in the world.

The location and shape each form a microcosm according to the principles of yin-yang and the five elements, and contain the principles of the universe’s movement.

The central tower in the middle of the outer rope towers is a mysterious tower that shakes when the wind blows hard and then stops in place again. It is said that this is because the stones have male and female parts and were piled up in harmony with the male and female parts.

In addition to this miracle, Maisan Tower Temple has another mystery. It is the reverse icicle.

If you pray in winter while pouring water, icicles will grow from the bowl.

If you go to Jinan, Jeollabuk-do, there is a mountain called Maisan. It is named because it resembles a horse’s ear.

There is a temple called Tapsa at the entrance of Maisan, which is quite mysterious.

About 100 years ago, a person built a tower with stones, and the method and effort of making it were extraordinary.

That is why some people think that he has supernatural powers.
